Committee seeks opinion on shutting down propane-using units from March 10 and Gujarat Gas-using units from March 15; Final decision to be taken in the upcoming meeting
Morbi: Considering the prevailing gas crisis, a highly crucial discussion was held in the Morbi ceramic industry. The association has sought opinions from all members regarding a proposed one-month shutdown, with propane-using industries shutting down from March 10 and Gujarat Gas-using industries from March 15.
A severe gas shortage has arisen due to the Iran-Israel war. As a result, the supply of propane gas to the industries has completely stopped, while Gujarat Gas is being supplied with a 50% cut. Under these circumstances, more than 100 factories have already implemented a shutdown since yesterday, and many other industries are preparing to follow suit.
A general meeting of the ceramic units was held regarding this issue, where the committee considered completely halting production for a month. According to the available information, separate general meetings were held for units using propane gas and those using Gujarat Gas. The current critical situation was discussed in depth during these meetings. At the end of the discussion, approximately 97% of the units voted in favor of halting production.
Based on this consensus, opinions have been sought to completely shut down production work for a month in different phases for propane and Gujarat Gas consuming units.
The committee has proposed to the industrialists that propane-consuming units will keep production shut from 10/03/2026 to 10/04/2026, and Gujarat Gas-consuming units will keep production shut from 15/03/2026 to 15/04/2026. Members will now submit their opinions on this matter in writing. Following this, a final decision will be made in the next general meeting.
